nabisco came out with their 100 calorie pack snacks, and one of them was oreo. these do not have the creme filling, but just taste like the cookie part. very light and crisp, these are actually very addictive. i would recommend this for people on a diet that are craving something sweet. =)

I freely admit to being anthropomorphic. Always have been. Always will be. I just find it difficult to think we are the only species on the planet with a sense of humor, or who enjoys having a good time (ask an otter). So be it.

This is one large cottonwood tree. The beaver who felled it had to invest a lot of time, energy and precious calorie burning to complete the job. So why did they pick such a huge cottonwood to fell? They can't transport the fallen log, it is too big and heavy. No need to die cutting the big trunk into cord wood either.

Perhaps it is an efficient way of getting to LOTS of delicious upper branches. Biologists say that beaver fell huge trees in "strategic" locations to help with the construction of a big dam. If that is the case this beaver sure screwed up. The big cottonwood fell not cross creek but down creek.

I will go with the theory of "to get to the mother of all beaver meals, high up a cottonwood tree - - lots of tender branches at the top". But I just can't discount in my own mind, that perhaps the beaver that toppled this tree, did it to show off, or to satisfy him or herself, that it could be done. Because it is there - - perhaps.

Felling a huge tree like this is potentially quite dangerous to a beaver. Though fast swimmers they are patheticly slow and lumbering when moving about land. It doesn't appear from the stump of the tree that beaver have mastered the lumberjack's ability to direct the fall of a treel. This tree had a mighty thin pedestal when it finally fell. So I will leave the beaver facts to the biologists and the beaver experts, but meanwhile I will continue to smile when I see something like this along a trail.

The great and unique North American beaver. They can live to a be 25 years old and are the largest rodent in North America (reaching up to 100 pounds).

[Castor canadensis] make their dams to make ponds for their protection from predators but more importantly as an "efficient' way to travel and transport the food that they eat (and to facilitate its growth!).

Lots of other wildlife benefit from the beavers' dams, ponds, and pathways. They are nocturnal so you are most likely to spot them at dusk or dawn, and expect a rifle report sound of alarm if they spot you first as they slap their tail on the surface of the water before diving (they can "hold their breath" for over 15 minutes).

They don't hibernate. Their four front "business teeth" never stop growing all throughout their lives. Those four cutting teeth are hard on the front and soft on the back, causing them to "self sharpen" as they do their tree cutting work.

It is a pleasure to come upon their handiwork, like here in the upper reaches of Umtanum Creek Canyon.

Tuesday 10 Nov 2009. I drove up and down the Yakima River Canyon with the 55 - 250 mm lens on my XSi. I thought I might spot an early eagle or a late white pelican along the river. I didn't.

I kept the telephoto lens on the camera and then hiked up Umtanum Creek Canyon for a little over 3 miles. I experimented with some shallow DOF photos and hoped I might encounter some wildlife. I did see two bighorn sheep but they were at the top of the canyon rim high above me. Still with the 250 mm (times 1.6), I got a few decent photos of them. At the top of the canyon I ran into a lot of small beaver dams and the golden cottonwood leaves floated down Umtanum Creek and made lovely patterns in the beaver pond. There I switched to the 18 - 55 mm lens and took all photos hiking back out with that lens. I saw a few mule deer but didn't get a good photo of them. The appeal was all the early winter color and many textures of wild grass, sage, old orchards, cottonwood, aspen groves and bright barked ponderosa pine. These photos are from the trip up to Umtanum Canyon and the hike I took in it.

The doctor himself was all big chattery capped teeth and big square eyebrows, and he told me a parable about two women, and they eat identical apples but one woman burns off the calories and ANOTHER WOMAN DOESN'T.

I long thought we don't need to appeal to this kind of recipe - I guess it's known as 5 grains or 8 grains rice - among Chinese - and probably Korean people.

We won't have time for such a time and attention requiring recipe - that has been my thinking. We can eat something else to cover the need of fiber and colorful items[meaning for example, adzuki beans].

But after few winters in this inland North East of America, alas, we gave in.

We needed something - probably 'a heck of fiber' and nutrients we've not been taking in - to cleanse and align our bodies, esp digestive organs and blood/blood veins. We've been feeling the need and talking about it - 'What exists? - what kind of new stuff exists out there?' 'Well, I don't know.' {*There is an issue of organic foods store's bulk section here.}

The introduction of this type of recipe into out diet started gradually. Didn't happen that overnight. Before we started this 'mixed grains' rice recipe, we were starting to cook azuki beans by ourselves. We tried to reach authentic home cooking recipe, and managed to find one[there are too many 'easy' recipes which really doesn't work well], and started to enjoy its benefits. [Adzuki works on mental exhaustion recovery, raising mental alertness and so on. It's basically very 'brainy' - a food good for your brains - and eyes too.]

And one day, our friend - a lady who runs Chinese grocery in the town - was talking to a guy who recently developed diabetes. We overheard that guy was eating white or sweet rice only, and he needs advice how to switch - to what. He should at least switch to brown rice but he doesn't like one. He said he is kind of clueless.

Then the lady, pointing out to the bulk grains/beans section in the store, said loudly.

'Mix all that, you see. Take bit of each and mix, and soak overnight then cook. That's really taste good.'

'That way you'd be able to eat brown rice and you'd be happy!'

This is one of the oil paintings I was talking about when I was talking about a painting of a devotee with a painting of his or her favorite saint around his or her neck. I think I might have this one copied back in the mess somewhere. I know I have pondered it before.

I had forgotten about this doll. It makes me think of a quinceanera doll but I have no idea if this ((((I heard a female voice far in the distance say, "nope". They've run some very painful scams on me today. Mrs. Sorenson came out and started talking to me and during the conversation began to talk about Taco Bell. This is a vignette that she whas quite frequently presented to me over the years. In the years before my parents died, I used to go out to the Holladay library sometimes and stop at the Taco bell on the way home. I used to eat there quite a bit but I just remember that it was o the way home for the library that I began to notice they were calling up big manic flash mobs to greet me when I went there. I remember a Jensen Bryan who was standing at the counter complaining about food that had not been prepared correctly or conventionally with a big crowd in line and filling the tables. It is a frequent theme they use to antagonize me, like the people coming in the library and having a loud conversation with a librarian about petty details of the library services and so on as if they had never before been to one. His petty complaint was being expressed in exaggerated tone. When he turned from the counter he said to me, "Tuesday nights!" as if confusion and large crowds were customary on that night, although this was about the first flash mob I had ever experienced here and I had been eating here for years. Taco Bell used to sell 3 soft wheat or 3 crispy corn tacos for a dollar on Tuedays. At this time, I didn't use the term "flash mob" although I may have run across it. I was in denial and couldn't admit to myself that these mobs were planned. They forced to quit going there by a combination of flash mobs and the misdirection of the counter people which I have described. I remember once sometime after my accident with Preston, I went there and the window person was so somethingorother---I can't call it impolite. It's more like being off center.---I threw my order out the car window at the wall of the building as I left. I remember dark skinned, short Mexican who worked there who moved into an apartment where Diana lived with her mother over on 5th E and 8th S. He seemed to me to be a very good worker and reliable. He would always misdirect my attention by asking, "3?" after I had ordered 4 bean burritos, the order I would most often make. Sometimes he would make me repeat the order several times by asking a different number each time I gave him the order again. He was always even tempered and didn't show any signs of contempt or anger. Actually I'm recalling that I threw several meals away because of the tone they used. This was during the time I had reduced my caloric intake to about 3 or 400 calories a day. I didn't throw the food around, though, I just threw ii in the trash. They have the automatic save turned off. I'm glad they didn't erase this. knock wood. Anyway, when Mrs. Sorenson runs the Taco Bell flash fuse on me or whatever it's called she starts talking about what a good buy they have on tacos at Taco Bell and how bad the crowds are on Tuesdays and so forth. She had been talking to me about my neighbors Rex and Marlene. she has told me that they are in South Carolina with a niece who is dying of cancer but I think she is misdirecting me and that it is Rex who is dying of cancer. She gives details of the situation that makes me think she is also talking about another of my neighbors Otis Mollenex who has a son who seems to have disappeared and whose name disappeared from the house across the street where he and his wife lived. I think he or his wife may have died but I don't really have any basis for that one or any details. I mean, they didn't tell me the truth about my brother when he died and the details of his wife's death are ones I got from my mind and not from them. I believe my sister had a hysterectomy a while ago which they told was some other procedure. Of course my brother having a "baby" sized tumor removed a few months ago, I believe, was a fabrication. They didn't tell about Fred's death until 2 years after he died. I think Marlene Palmer's funeral was one they set up for me to attend and they had buried her sometime before. It's difficult to describe the sense of insult, anger and hurt when you realize it is a fabrication and a misdirection. True story: I grabbed a bunch of matches from the Cha Cha to send down to my friend in LA as they have a Cha Cha in Silverlake and I thought it'd be cool if he had matches that said Seattle on it (yes, I'm lame).

Anyway, I threw them into a Fed Ex envelope and shipped it next day air. I told my boyfriend (who is a UPS driver) and he asked "Did you put flammable on the the label?" and I said "um, no...was I supposed to? oops, well at least I sent it next day air" He said "Nice, put unmarked flammable material on a plane."

Oops...and now, of course, I've talked about blowing up a plane, terrorism, fbi lists and the axis of evil....I'm screwed.
