My very first attempt at making a cheesecake! As usual, Nigella is super-reliable and the cheesecake came out just right. This is a truly long drawn out dish to make though - 90 minutes of baking, 2 hours just standing in the oven (with door closed), 1 hour outside it to let the cheesecake set further before refrigerating it. The result, however, is well worth the wait. Eat with strawberries or other berries as per Nigella's suggestion - the acidity of the fruit cuts through the rich, creamy cheesecake.

Now I know how much cream cheese, sour cream and double cream goes into a cheesecake (and the calorie and $ cost of each item), I am going to complain less about the cost, but will probably eat fewer store-bought cheesecakes.

This recipe called for the use of a 9inch springform pan - I only have an 8 inch (20cm) pan. So I made two cheesecakes, one using my springform pan and the other in a tiny little 6 inch round baking pan. Somehow, both turned out just fine.
